Jamaica Association for the Deaf

The JAD was started in 1938 and has maintained our focus on Deaf education through pre-school to high school level programmes in 4 parishes supporting approximately 200 students; as well as the empowerment of Deaf adults across the island. JAD provides hearing healthcare services, sign language training services, products through a fine hand bindery to the public, and supports the Deaf community and their families through advocacy, family and individual guidance, workforce integration, and community development. With a wealth of experience in successfully managing projects with the support of local and international funders the JAD welcomes partnership opportunity to support inclusion of the Deaf community in Jamaica. The student sponsorship program supports 20 students on average annually and a key impact has been the improvement in school attendance, towards improved literacy and numeracy. In the last year, two repeat beneficiaries have successfully matriculated to the University of Technology Jamaica.
