National Museum Jamaica is the leader in museum development in Jamaica and is the guardian of the national collection of over 17,000 historic artefacts. NMJ is a division of the Institute of Jamaica and administers four community-based museums: (1) The Water Lane Gallery on East Street, (2) The People's Museum of Craft and Technology, Spanish Town, (3) National Museum West in Montego Bay, and (4)The new Port Royal Museum (in development).

The new Port Royal Museum in Port Royal exploring the epic history of this small town. We always had a small museum in Fort Charles, however it was very small and we could not explore all the history or display the full range of artifacts.

National Museum Jamaica's mission is to increase knowledge and promote appreciation of Jamaica's material heritage through public education and community outreach, research, community-based museums, special exhibitions, and collection/conservation of historic artifacts.
We are raising an additional US$450,000 for new Port Royal Museum exhibition. This includes (1) US90,000 to assist in the installation and (2) US$10,000 for production of a 60 second history online programme.
